But first, let’s get to know more about this wine’s taste profile, food pairings and other characteristics.
Is Moselland Cat Riesling Dry or Sweet?
Traditionally, Riesling wines are more on the sweeter side balancing out their high acidity. But there are also dry Rieslings available in the market.
Moselland Cat Riesling is an easy-drinking moderately sweet wine with a pleasing finish. It can be labeled as “sweet” or “feinherb”.
The taste of Moselland Cat Riesling wine is very strong and can be felt with the first sip, even if the wine is ice-cold.
It is an aromatic wine with original fruit aromas of orchid fruits such as-
- Honey-crisp apple
Besides the fruity flavors, you can also taste other notes such as-
- Lime peel
You will be surprised to know, that even after these fruity flavor profiles, the aroma of this wine is completely different. It smells of petroleum wax, petrol or diesel. Even though it has nothing to do with natural petrol, the aroma’s come from the grape variety.
The best part about Cat Riesling being sweet in taste is that, it can be perfectly paired with spicy food such as Indian and Asian spices.
A classic pairing could be with spiced duck leg, but can also be paired with meat and vegan palates using Jalapeno.
Fish go well with sweet wines, but not in this case.
- Roasted Squash
- Red Onion
- Bell Pepper
Cheese & Herbs Pairings-

- Cayenne Pepper
- Soy Sauce
- Teriyaki Sauce
Now that you know how to match your food perfectly with a glass of Moselland Cat Riesling, lets about its legendary story.
The Legend of The Moselland Cat Riesling
The legendary story of the Cat Riesling started many-many years ago, in a small town of Zell, Germany.
One fine day, 3 friends came searching for the best wine in the town of Zell. While wandering around in the local market, they approached a tradesman asking him to let them rest and sit nearby.
When the tradesman got to know that these friends were looking for wine, he opened his barrels and poured them some wine.
While they were tasting the wine, they pointed out to the next barrel when suddenly, a black cat jumped on top of the barrel and arched it’s back, swiping its paw at anyone who approached it.
The strangers bought this wine, thinking that the cat had “chosen” it for them. Little did the cat know, it was going to have a whole wine type named after it.
This black wine bottle is said to bring good-luck to anyone who buys it.
